Threats of Nuclear Attack
on the United States or Allies
It takes a bit of study to properly understand Nuclear Weapons Technology, Nuclear Deterrence, and Military Use and Doctrines/Policy. Here is our analysis and summary.
THE REAL NUCLEAR THREATS ARE... Iran and North Korea
Countries who are willing to sacrifice their own 'self-preservation' for an ideology, religion, revenge, or holy cause are more likely to use Nuclear Weapons if they have them.
COUNTRIES WITH NUCLEAR WEAPONS
RUSSIA (4309) - UNITED STATES (3700) - CHINA (600) - FRANCE (290) - UNITED KINGDOM (225)
INDIA (180) - PAKISTAN (170) - ISRAEL (90) - NORTH KOREA (50)

THE REAL NUCLEAR THREATS ARE... Iran and North Korea
Countries who are willing to sacrifice their own 'self-preservation' for an ideology, religion, revenge, or holy cause are more likely to use Nuclear Weapons.
IRAN - an extreme Islamic and totalitarian government who's ideology prioritizes their religious hatred of Israel and the United States (aka 'The Great Satan') and has since the 1980s called for the total destruction of both. As of June 2025, Iran has enough enriched uranium to make 10 bombs and use them on their existing advanced Ballistic Missiles which can reach Europe. [ more about Iran ]
NORTH KOREA - an extreme communist totalitarian government who has about 300 nuclear bombs and advanced ballistic missiles that can reach the United States. They have been known to be militarily aggressive, using their military to provoke neighbors, and their actions have fluctuated wildly, not even being controllable by China, their ally and supporter - to which their survival depends.
Nuclear War between Major Nuclear Powers (China, Russia, the United States)? Highly Improbable.
The question IS NOT whether China or Russia CAN attack the U.S. mainland, because they can. Since the U.S. maintains a significant nuclear deterrent, a nuclear attack on the U.S. mainland is highly improbable. Any nuclear or EMP attack (high-altitude nuke) on the mainland of the United States or upon a U.S. ally would automatically initiate a full nuclear retaliatory strike upon the attacker - wiping them out. [see M.A.D. theory]
IT IS HIGHLY IMPROBABLE that the leaders of China or Russia would use nuclear weapons - since their first priority is their own self-preservation, survival, and the maintaining of power. The U.S. and western allies hold enough of a nuclear deterrent - and we would use it if attacked first.
Nuclear Attacks in the Pacific or Europe? Still highly unlikely since any nuclear attack on an overseas U.S. base, or U.S Ally or NATO Ally would also provoke a full nuclear retaliation by the U.S.
Use of an 'in theater' smaller-scale tactical nuclear weapon is more likely but still not probable since it would solicit an aggressive full 'non-nuclear' military and economic retaliation by the West and most of the world.
Smaller-Scale Regional Nuclear Attack? More likely. For example: Iran vs Israel, Pakistan (a Muslim country) vs Israel, India vs Pakistan, India vs China.

Electro-Magnetic Pulse - A Nuclear Weapon Explosion in the High-Atmosphere.
Can Destroys on the Ground Electronics, Computers, Data Storage, the Power Grid, and Power Systems.
An EMP attack is normally the first thing done in an 'all-out nuclear strike' and civilians having their electronics and power grid destroyed would be the least of our worries.
An EMP Attack (Electro-magnetic Pulse) is actually a nuclear weapons explosion - just set off in high altitude versus near the ground. As previously mentioned, because of the U.S. Nuclear deterrent, that makes this scenario highly improbable.
THE MORE SERIOUS THREAT IS... CME - GeoMagnetic Solar Storms, which can also have a similar effect to an EMP Attack, but are naturally occurring.

Would we recommend EMP Bags for storing electronic and computer equipment?
Yes, but in an order of priority in preparedness, it would be one of the later things we would recommend you buy and use. Every person and family should first focus on the most important things for surviving disasters: long-term storage of food and water, then home and personal defense, then self sustainability (growing food/farming, fishing, hunting), then solar power systems and communications. [ see our Prepping 101 page ]
Nuclear EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) Weapons are created from the detonation of a nuclear weapon at high altitude. Both the CMEs (GeoMagnetic Solar Storms) and EMPs can cause an atmospheric energy event to occur that can affect very large areas and disable Power Grids, yet a large-scale EMP attack can cause the most damage to many electronic devices not even plugged into the Power Grid. There is also such a thing as small EMP Weapons (Energy Weapons) that affect small target areas, but for this discussion, we're more concerned about large-scale EMP Weapons.
Many have their opinions as to which is more likely, an EMP or CME. Yet what remains, is the fact that CMEs/GeoMagnetic Storms occur on a regular basis and most should prepare for a major CME GeoMagnetic Storm within their lifetime.
It is the opinion of this Editor that a large scale, widely damaging EMP attack by an enemy is much, much more less likely, due to the fact that the use of a large scale EMP weapon is, in fact, the use of a nuclear weapon. And any use a nuclear weapon, even just one, used against the U.S. or an ally would engage the U.S. long-standing doctrine of full nuclear retaliation upon that enemy (see M.A.D.). If there is one thing that IS SURE, even the most heinous of authoritarian dictators are lovers of themselves and their number one priority is to remain in power. Use of an EMP upon the U.S. or ally would only assure their quick destruction.

THE MOST SERIOUS THREAT WE FACE IS...
The Power Grid being hacked/disabled if at war.
“If the grid went down for a long enough time…
90 percent of the U.S. population would die from starvation, lack of water, and social disruption. We are talking about total devastation.”
